Why is dental hygiene so important in people with hht?
Well simply put bacteria around the gums can get into the blood stream. If a person has pulmonary avm's this can put you at risk of infection or abscess in the brain.
Regular good dental hygiene takes down the risk of this, so brush twice a day, floss between your teeth and use mouth wash. Visit a dentist regulary and make sure they know you have or are suspected of having hht. It is advised for all people who know they have pulmonary avm's to take anitbiotics before any dental treatment, even cleaning. Some dentist wont prescribe these. If that is the case, talk to your GP most GP's are happy to help.
